DIY Instagram Backdrops: How can you create your own product backdrop
DIY Backdrops for Instagram
Simple Watercolor Painting Backdrop for Instagram
A company advertised their new product recently on Instagram; These high end mats with lovely pastel colors cost over a hundred dollars to purchase. They make a beautiful backdrop for product photography. I’m not sure what material they are made from, but I believe they were imported from Italy. However, they cost over a hundred dollars just for one mat. You can’t reuse mats in every photo you do on Instagram, so this poses a problem for small businesses on a budget. You’d have to purchase more than one of them in different colors. You’re looking at more than $300 just for custom backdrops. I felt discouraged by the thought I would have to put more money into my small business, because I have already spent over $1,000 on cameras. Then I realized I have everything I need to make my own backdrop, and so do you. I’m sharing my process below and the supply list.
What You Need to Make Your Own
It’s actually very simple and cheap to make your own. All you need is watercolor or craft paper, a large watercolor brush, and a few colors that match your brand. The reason I mention this is because you want your backdrop to match your brand colors (logo). It will make your Instagram grid look consistent. I discuss how to do this in another article: Stepping up the look of your Instagram grid to match your brand colors.
Supplies List for the Backdrop
Watercolors (tubes or paints)
Flat head watercolor brush
Craft paper/preferably watercolor paper
Camera (iphone or other camera)
