My process for digitally painting portraits using iPad Pro
Join me on this journey. I’m diving deep into painting on the iPad. Over the last three years I have resisted painting on the iPad. It irritated me how little control I felt I had. Then the new iPad Pro came out with the new design for the Apple pencil, and I fell in love with it. There’s something incredibly natural about how the pencil feels. I almost forget I’m holding it in my hand. I love how the pencil is light weight and easy to use.
I started customizing my palettes and saving windsor and newton colors to make it more like a traditional color palette. I tried new brushes and started creating my own in photoshop. I started customizing my canvas by adding a grid. Downloading guides also helped me to work with perspective.
Below I show you how I start working on the 50 heads challenge on my iPad, the challenge Ahmed Aldoori created that so many artists have participated in. It’s awesome for learning new skills fast. I love how it’s forcing me to face the areas of my training where I feel inadequate. I’m excited to share my process below.
