I’m deeply passionate about traditional media and how it can be incorporated into the digital design process. iPad Pro digital painting and portrait study
Cookie Krum is a new brand arriving on the market of home made pastries. I’m excited to say I worked on this project because their products are very tasty.
Coming up with an original name was a challenge, but I was inspired by the sensation of enjoying a home made cookie. I followed the creative bread krumb down the winding path of ideas and I came up with the name Cookie Krum. I hand lettered the logo to feel traditional. It was then sketched and digitized using illustrator.
After this I painted each flavor of cookie using traditional watercolors and a sample of the real product. I wanted the cookie painting to really represent the product coming out of the package so the client sent me sample cookies off their production line.
I also inked a custom pattern based off of their ingredient list to go along with each box or bag. I created this pattern so it could be adapted to any packaging they might decide to use.
There is an amazing feeling one gets in creating something new. It’s hard to pin down. I created this on the iPad using Procreate and the Apple pencil.
Defract embodies the distortion in the light traveling through the universe. She is the interruption in the natural order of things. Just as humans are the disruption of the natural order of the world. Her expression of disgust with mankind’s treatment of the planet and pain are euphoric.
It all started with a series of Youtube videos we watched on meat. It was many things. The food is toxic, the animals are treated horribly, and it doesn’t do anything good for our bodies or minds. He and I started to question what we were putting into our mouths. It seemed an obvious choice for us. Along with that, the more we cut down on meat, the better we felt. Any time we had meat again, we both felt completely sick from the food. Maybe you’re not vegetarian, or maybe you’re vegan; It’s a personal choice. Plant based just made sense for us.
In the pattern, you’ll see the Salmon has a distorted lower lip. I tried to capture one distinct physical trait of farmed Salmon who live in the most toxic waters of the world.
Either way, I decided to create a piece of artwork using ink and gouache that would give me fulfillment. I chose this subject to illustrate because these are the top 3 most farmed fish in the world right now. They include Salmon, Trout, and Carp. I decided to turn this into a pattern so there are only 3 fish, but I’m hoping to find a client who would like to do a whole line of fish. I loved creating this and thought ink and gouache were the perfect combination for a pattern. You can see below how I threw the scanned illustration into Photoshop and cleaned up parts of the drawing. I added a flesh colored background to compliment the fish and make them feel more alive.
