Dreaming in color
—
The daughter of an inventor and a fine artist, I grew up drawing dinosaurs, plants, and fantasy landscapes. When I was not drawing, I was reading Nancy Drew novels or watching the scifi channel. I loved Victorian novels and along with that Jane Austen's novels, fantasy/sci fi novels, the work of Poe, Dickens, Shakespeare, Shelley...the list goes on. My favorite novel of choice would be Frankenstein. I love talking lit! You can find most of my comments and discussions on Twitter.
I studied fine art, graphic design, and English literature and composition. I have a mixed background and 9 years of experience working in the design field. I am happy to share my experiences or chat about art so feel free to email me.
Professional Journey
Hello! I have worked in design for 10 years working in layout design, illustration, web design and now specifically watercolor and digital illustration. I interned for a photographer while I attended the Art Institute of Orange County for a BA degree in Interactive Media Design in 2007. In 2009 I completed a certificate in graphic design foundation studies from Golden West College.
I was invited to design the program for the Literary Convention in Long Beach, a literary event honoring woman authors. I created a documentary for a not for profit organization offering art therapy for youth coping with trauma, and worked on 4 different publications at CSUF. I worked in the field for 4 years and took on various not for profit projects and then transferred to California State University, Fullerton to obtain my BA and MA degree in English.
While completing my graduate program, I studied abroad in London for one semester conducting research on Victorian sensation fiction, specifically American detective fiction written by one of the first woman writers in this genre during 1890. I received several honors for my research, completed my masters project early, assisted the dean in developing events for student development, and worked consecutively as an English tutor. I was hired as the college graphic designer at CSUF for the college of Humanities & Social Sciences. Post graduation I worked as a tutor at Coastline Community College.
Now I work independently as a designer and illustrator. I am deeply passionate about illustration and love working with my watercolors.
