Big Brother Shut Down My Parler Account...I'm just an artist
I can’t believe they shut down Parler and my new account where I was sharing my botanical paintings. I decided a few months ago to stop dumping hundreds of dollars into marketing on Facebook and Instagram, just to have them advertise to the audience I already had. You know a very small percentage actually sees your posts on these platforms? I was spending about $300 a month just on marketing. It did very little for my email list and I could tell the price of ads was going up. So I decided, why not try a new platform that seems to be gaining a lot of users? I heard Parler was gaining an audience so I jumped onto it. Usually it’s a good thing to be one of the first to build an audience on a new platform.
Today, they successfully shut down that dream. I had just begun to form an audience on on the platform. I’m very disappointed and I’m not sure what to do now. I didn’t need the platform to express political opinions, or even for a safe space. It was simply a space where I did not have to dump tons of money into a corporation in order to gain exposure for my work. Someone accused me on Youtube of joining a right-wing platform. I had to inform them that I don’t use social platforms to express political opinions. In fact, I’m not a registered voter. I joined Parler to share my artwork, oh boy…flowers. Flowers sure are dangerous.
Now I have to rethink my whole game. Clearly one that doesn’t give my advertising money to Instagram or Facebook. I’m just an artist trying to make a living. I cannot afford to give images of my artwork to these large platforms that can go take these images and sell them to China, while also profiting off of me as I pay them for ads.
If you’re wondering why I shut down my Facebook, I have videos about that also on my channel. There are security risks if you are an artists. They basically own your work now.
Here is the video I live streamed tonight about how Big Brother shutting down Parler may affect artists:
