Cactus Trend 2019: Good or Bad?
Cactus patterns are in this year
(DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT paid by any of the following to post this. These are all items I found online that I thought were adorable and reflected this year’s theme of cactus decor. I hope you enjoy this post.)
This trend really took me by surprise. I’ll admit. I have been seeing a boom in cactus designs for pattern design, fabric, and home decor this year. Cactus are gaining popularity all around. I’m not sure if this is linked to the attention the California drought brought to climate change, or if it is just a trendy item. Either way, world topics always influence trends in home decor, fashion, the art world, and graphic design industry.
I love botanicals and I’m not partial to cactus, but I have to admit when I saw this trend emerge I thought it was brilliant. The only thing I would like to see in this trend is more variety in use of color. It seems to me like designers are picking the same colors for all of the plants in these designs, either a rich yellow green or sap green. I’d like to see some aromatic greens and variety of tone.
Check out how some of the large chains and smaller are creating cactus decor and decide for yourself.
World market has a lot of cactus items.
Ikea featured these cute little cactus outdoor decorations. I found a set of three glass cactus trees at the actual IKEA store. You have to visit there because it doesn’t show them online, but the picture below will give you an idea of what they are like.
Nordstrom also has random items if you go to their accessories department. I noticed their phone cases section is really awesome. They have a lot of cute designs with cats and all kinds of trendy themes.
It’s just really odd to me that this cactus theme is circulating given the time of year it is. Usually you see flower themes and bright spring colors. However, green is very earthy. I’ll just go with it!
