Autumn Flowers with Vincent Jeannerot

Two years ago I picked up a floral packaging book at Barnes & Noble. I never thought I would dive this deeply into botanical art until I discovered the myriad of things you can learn in this field. One could spend their entire life studying plants and still not be a master.

Vincent Jeannerot, a botanical artist from France, shared his experience and knowledge with a small class of botanical artists at the Huntington Library in Pasadena, California. We watched his process and palette setup from start to finish. This exciting demonstration showed us how to mix realistic colors for our botanical compositions.

I chose the hydrangea for the flower I wanted to paint. And you’ll see below is my setup for painting this piece. I still haven’t finished the painting yet, but I intend to this week.
