Where can illustration be found?
Throughout the centuries illustrators have created visuals, whether it be the caves of Lascaux, or Versailles. Artists use their materials to create images that are symbolic and vibrant. Their images chronicle the human condition and experience. Illustration, as a field, is a young one. We didn’t begin to use the word illustration until very recently. However, illustrators have always existed. They created illustrated manuscripts and they painted hieroglyphics in the tombs of the Egyptians.
Illustrations can be found in children’s books, in magazines, and in history. Illustrations were used for political messaging during war early in this century. Products require illustrations for packaging and artists are hired to create the art. Illustrations are on stickers, packaging, washi tape, journals and scrapbooks, blankets, patterns, and every type of surface imaginable — even your shower curtain is illustrated. Illustrators even make iconography for phone icons, buttons, and social media animated Gifs. Check out this cute one I made:
If you have a project and need an illustrator, they can be found with a simple search on several different platforms. I currently work as a full-time illustrator. Illustrators showcase their work on social media platforms like Behance, Instagram, Facebook, and Linkedin. They typically show their portfolios to the public in order to work with various brands.
